#Payday 3 publisher full
It's a very nuanced situation, and sadly neither the community, nor Ovk really know the full story at this point.Įdit: edited because some reason steam has been taking my comments and putting them in quotes as of late whenever i try to quote someone. by ensuring pd3 never sees the light of day. If Overkill come out and say "it seems we will be, sorry" it might cause such a backlash that Epic might decide to pull out of the deal with koch, which would in turn cause koch to pull out with OVK, which could in turn ensure EGS doesn't get exclusivity of pd3. it's going to be on steam, don't worry guys" and then later they're told they must go EGS exclusive, they already know the backlash will be worse. This could be gleamed by the devs for Metro in particular, who were upfront about the situation, who stated they thought it was releasing on steam basically up until the release trailer was sleighted to be shown off, in which they were then told to remove the steam logo and replace it with the EGS logo.įor Ovk to come out and comment one way or the other right now would most likely be a serious problem. As what has been a pattern with the EGS deals, is they wait until a game has a deadline behind the scenes, then, right before the release date trailer, they snatch it up. Though on this particular issue, chances are Overkill don't know one way or the other currently. As such, this means they are beholden to said publisher, and as such, if the publisher feels Overkill might not be able to make good on their side of the bargain (to increase revenue that the publisher invested into them) then the publisher might simply pull out.

Overkill didn't go to a publisher because they had the funds themselves, they went to a publisher because it would give them the necissary funds to ensure the game's release. If the publisher gets approached by Epic and epic says "give us payday 3 exclusivity, and we'll give you millions of dollars" Overkill can say "whoa that would sink us" but the publisher can simply say "do it or you get absolutely no money for your game" and boom, payday 3 is not just delayed, most likely outright cancelled. A bit people forget, is it isn't quite overkill's decision.
